Construction Technology 2 is the next step in the construction program. It gives students who have completed Construction Technology 1 a chance to develop more experience in the industry. They will gain project management as well as leadership skills. Second year students will also take a more advanced approach in the trades developing skills needed for a future in the construction industry.

Each year students will research and design both renewable and nonrenewable energy sources including the construction of residential structures. These skills are applicable to a wide range of careers. In addition, safety is key in this industry, which is why it is our priority to identify appropriate hand and power tool usage. Upon completing this course, students will also be eligible to earn college credits and/or industry certification including the introduction to apprenticeship opportunities.

Course Goals: Students will understand the career options, career ladders, and job search techniques within their area of career preparation Students will be able to work cooperatively and demonstrate a positive attitude; identify, use, and maintain tools, equipment and materials; perform mathematical calculations needed for industry and the common skills of general construction, electrical systems, print reading, carpentry, masonry, and plumbing. Students will develop a quality work ethic.

Students have the opportunity to renew the following certifications: First Aid/CPR; Forklift/Scissor Lift Operator; Rigging; Students in the program may qualify for as many as 7.4 Walla Walla Community College credits.

It is expected that students in this class develop and maintain a professional and respectful ethic. Because this is a Career and Technical Education class, work ethic is extremely important to success in this class. Students must be ready to work in class each day. Students must strive to do their best and be self-motivated. Students will be expected to work in small and large groups.
