How It Works

About Us

Walla Walla Online is a tuition-free, online public school option for students in grades Kindergarten through 12. Utilizing high quality online curriculum supported by Walla Walla Public Schools teachers, students have the opportunity to experience their public school learning offsite. Whether learning to read at elementary, exploring middle school science, or earning high school credit to receive a WWPS diploma, Walla Walla Online may be the perfect choice for some students and families.

Who is the program intended for?

Walla Walla Online is an online public school option for students in grades K thru 12 who are looking for an alternative educational option that may better suit their individual learning needs or circumstances.

Are there any costs involved?

No. As a program offered under Walla Walla Public Schools, Walla Walla Online is tuition free. Students are issued a Chromebook to access their learning, internet access support if required, and similar to the district’s traditional school setting there are no additional fees involved.

Is online learning right for me/my student?

For elementary students, daily parental and/or family support is necessary for success. While online students will be assigned a Walla Walla Public School teacher to assist as their learning coach, an adult at home must be present to supervise, support, and monitor student progress. If students do not have access to an onsite adult who can monitor and support their daily learning, Walla Walla Online is probably not the right choice.

For secondary students/families, research has shown that successful online students are those who are highly motivated, independent, possess good organizational and time management skills, and maintain the discipline to study and complete tasks without consistent external reminders. The following is adapted from The Community for Accredited Online Schools. Before considering an online experience, carefully review the following prompts:

  1. It is not important for me/my student to have face-to-face interaction when learning.
  2. I/my student is an independent learner - classroom discussions are not as critical to I/my learning success.
  3. I/my student is motivated and organized.
  4. I/my student’s critical thinking skills are good.
  5. I/my student’s learning style is often independent or self-guided.
  6. I/my student enjoys discovering things on his or her own.
  7. I/my student’s technology skills are good or average.
  8. I/my student understands deadlines and rarely or only sometimes procrastinates.
  9. I/my student is comfortable with flexible schedules.

If you/your secondary student can answer yes to a majority of these prompts, online learning may be an option to consider.
